Back when I started, doctors usually used Dorland's, so I've always just stuck with Dorland's, although Stedman has an excellent one as well.

What is your favorite, and why?

Do you prefer the electronic version? Why?

Electronic (net-available) version of either - I have both bookmarked, as well as some others that I use depending on mood, word, context, and initial success in finding. I admit I go to Dorland's first on most occasions.

Preferred because you aren't buying a doorstop that is obsolete the moment you get it.

OneLook.com -- which lists a quick definition plus an entire list of categorized dictionaries, including medical, that have a definition for that word. I do have Stedman's version 6 on my computer, but use it less and less.

I have Dorland's electronic edition, but I also am using my references less and less as I gain more experience and more confidence in my knowledge base.

Stedman's is my favorite, plus I have all the specialty versions too....all in electronic. I still have Dorland's and look in that here and there. I use OneLook for stuff as well, but nothing on the medical side. I find that Stedman's pretty much covers everything.....thank goodness, because I now cover everything too!! LOL

I'm with Trops; Dorland's for the first look, online for all dictionary searches. (BTW, there are full, unexpurgated versions of Stedman available for free online. They're on physician-access-only sites, but I found it easy enough to get a client to set me up with a log-in. Ironic, though, isn't it--the guys making the megabucks can get the full digital unabridged Stedman's for free, but the peons making the pennies are expected to pay through the nose for it.)
