like this ... I know this is a simplified PR version that has been dumbed down to appeal to the buyers more easily, but still, this was sort of my vision of where things were going

Emdat use in EMR

It does not really match up with what was in this other article we have going in the HZ, so maybe the reality if what is happening will end up being some sort of compromise in between the two smile

Transcription's place in a digital world

Why do I get the feeling that the next big thing in MT compensation will be that we will only be paid for what is tagged? Oh, the docs are likely to continue to dictate like they always have - being the creatures of habit they are - and there is that push for still getting the whole history, but the reality will be that only what is tagged and searchable is truly valuable. The rest is just nice to have but not needs to have. And just how will we be able to verify that we are being paid appropriately for that?

Demand to go back to an hourly pay rate.

Why of course! Silly me. fhslap MTSOs are so responsive to MT salary demands. I'm sure it won't be a problem. <sigh>

Mine isn't even responsive to a mere request to reconsider my rate! MTSO switched to VBC in March. My new rate is considerably less than compensatory. Over two weeks ago I requested the owner please reconsider my rate but I have not heard back. I guess that means the answer is "NO".

Any good therapist will tell you - you can't change other people, you can only change yourself and how you react to the situation. I've seen MTs handle the changes in the industry by desperately trying to find the elusive job that's maybe 6 degrees better than what "everybody else" is offering - then praying that employer doesn't join "everybody else." Some have left the industry. Some react by complaining, but not taking any action.

I don't see MTs collectively standing up for themselves, which is the only way things are going to change any time soon. Otherwise, experienced MTs leave the industry and hardly anyone notices.

I'm a strong believer in a backup plan, a backup plan to the backup plan, and a viable exit strategy.

What saddens me is that we have an organization to "have our backs" and they don't even seem to be interested in the individual MT unless it comes to getting their hard-earned money to become accredited.

You are so right Julie, I left the industry and no one noticed. Isn't it sad?? Someone should start a group for just MT's, not MTSO's, who would lobby for the individual MT's. I would be willing to bet if everyone believed in the "power in numbers" adage, maybe the average MT would have a fighting chance in this industry. 2cents
