Clean up the mess!
These pictures depict something so foreign to me that I wonder if they're Photoshopped!
Are there really people who keep their work space this neat and tidy ALL THE TIME?

Yep!! My husband is one. He has been known to take out the ruler to make sure something is exactly straight and centered (such as his calculator)! He has a fit when he sees my workspace, but I can find everything just fine. I showed him these pictures and he says he is going to do the one with the peg board underneath the table. Hey, at least he will be out of my hair for a few days.

I still say a clean desk is the sign of a sick mind.

I'm afraid if I show you a picture of my desk I'll end up on Oprah's cleaning your house show that she does sometimes.

Oh, I admit it - I am terribly neurotic and the older I get, the more so... I love these ideas !! Actually, I'm not too far behind in my efforts to organize and hide the cords. I HATE cords on anything.

Because of our cat, I had to do the pegboard under the table thing years ago. I hate the cords, but the tabletop is a different story.

I have a big corner desk so the only way you would see my cords is if you got down on your hands and knees. The top, however, has so much crap on it I think there is only about 4 square inches of desk showing through. Mind you, I know where everything is and actually surprised DH the other day when he asked for something. I dove under the keyboard to one of the shelves that hasn't been touched for about 2 years and pulled it right out. He is such a neat freak and I think it pains him to walk into my office. At least there are doors to close so he can pretend it is not here.

I wish I could show you all a picture of my boss' desk when I worked at DMV. You couldn't see the top of it. There was a pile of papers about a foot high. A co-worker and I made bets about how far back the bottom layer was dated. (It was 5 years.) There were pictures of the famous desk in Albany at DMV's main office. He knew where everything was though!

My desk looks sort of like those, except for the cords. I fear the day I have to actually unhook something. What a mess that will be.
Now, my husband's desk, which is right next to mine, is a giant explosion of papers, old floppy disks, Coke cans, and Post-It notes. Sometimes his stuff spreads to my desk, much like an infectious disease!

I almost had a stroke when the DSL guy asked me to point out the modem cord.
Lib, the easy way to do this is to unplug it from the back of the modem, it does the same job and is sooooo much easier. I learned that little tip from my cable guy when I went cord diving.

I kind of like the pegboard thing, too.
Lib - I label my cords. It makes things much, much easier. Everything that plugs into the power center and everything that plugs into the computer has a label on the end where it plugs in so I know what it goes to.
