My precious baby boy. He is so grown up and 19 now. I have shared some of the ups and downs he has gone thru, requested prayer many times for him and now I have a blessing...even though Im Mom and it hurts, its still a blessing. Rusty is going into Teen Challenge this morning. It is like a Christian bootcamp, for those of you who dont know about it and are interested you can check out their website. Its VERY structured and totally awesome. Every minute of the day is ordered and they learn so much....so much. From good prayer time with God, to studying, to honest/good work ethics. Rusty will be there for a minimum of 13 months. No phone calls or visits the first month. They are "graded" on everything (from their studies to their hygiene) and have to earn every privilige, visitors, tv, eventually day passes home. Your grades and levels in the program determine everything, so you have to do good and work hard to earn and keep your priviliges. All their curriculum is based on a 6th grade reading level so he will not have a horrible time with any of the studies. He will recieve counseling and also one on one instruction and will recieve his GED. After our visit out there for the interview part of the process yesterday it was like my spirit just jumped for joy at all of the prospects of what he can receive out there and I know this is gonna be so awesome for him. Rusty has always "fallen thru the cracks" in the public school system and then again when he got in trouble. In order to get him the help he needed he had to qualify and one of the qualifications was an IQ of 69 and he tested out at 70 so of course nothing available to him. It has been so very frustrating and hard on all of us, especially him. Rusty has not been in any more legal trouble, but just some things, attitude wise and honesty wise, have not changed since he got in trouble and we just began to pray that the Lord would fix things, open doors, whatever to bring Rusty where he needs to be. He has four years of felony probation and cannot afford to end up messed up legally for he would be in prison and I sure cant stand that idea.
Rusty is such a good kid. So tender hearted and so giving...and while my spirit leaps for joy at the chance he is getting with this program...my "Momma heart" cries in complete pain because I will sooooo miss him. While I am thankful that Teen Challenge has a place right here in my town and I will be able to see him...its just not the same as having him at home with me.
I was oh so determined that I would not cry, would not do anything to make him feel that I was "sorry" he was leaving...but naturally last night one little thing happened and I completely lost it and was hysterical. I had to explain to him that I am so very excited for him and so thankful that God has opened this door, its just that Im gonna miss him oh so much.
So anyways, keep my baby boy in your prayers...and pray for his family who are missing him already and I have not even dropped him off yet lol.
I cant believe my home is empty...just Darrel and I....wow....pray for us as a couple too as we come to "know" each other as partners and people, no longer "just" parents lol. Okay I must go get Rusty up and get ready to go and drop him off...if you read this before 10 this morning just say a lil prayer for us as we leave him....I will be updating with his growth in the Lord and his awesome inside man becoming the oustide man we all see! Hugs to all.

Rose, I will certainly pray for Rusty, as well as for you and Darrel as you all adjust. I know it can be hard to leave the important things in God's hands, even when that's the best place for them.

Hi Rose. I just said a prayer. I know four people who have gone through teen challenge and they are all still doing well. It is an awesome place I hear. They just came to our church a couple of weeks ago and gave some testimonies. You are an awesome mom. Keep giving him to God.
Kim

Thanks Kim! I know this is for the best and I know it will be awesome, just hard letting your kids go! But it will be fine. My other kids took turns calling me today wanting to check and make sure I was okay lol. Sweet of them, but Im not depressed or anything, just a little sad over my empty house, but it will be fine and me and hubby will find all sorts of things to do to fill our time!
