I know there is a limit memory-wise on how much you should put in Auto Correct but can anyone tell me what it is? I work in Word and the company I work for says we can add unlimited items into Auto Correct and Auto Text. I am having consistent problems where I log in and my auto correct files are totally gone. At that point, the IS department restores it back to whatever date they have backed up, but I would really like to get to the root of the problem. I will add I work on through their server so not sure if I have the option to purchase a word expander on my own or not. Thanks much.

Microsoft claims there is a limit of approximately 7,000 words for AutoCorrect. Most people run into memory resource problems (causing Word to crash) long before they reach the limit. AutoText is limited to Word's file size limit of approximately 32MB -- this file size would also include all customizations and macros stored in the normal.dot (if that is your default storage file).

Since you are working directly on a server, you would have to look to them for a solution.

Even though Microsoft says 7000 and some people have problems before that, one of my computers has over 8000 (some formatted, some unformatted) and have no problems with it.

Formatted AutoCorrect entries are stored in the normal.dot file; unformatted entries are stored in the .acl file. Be sure to back up both files. I see posts on various boards almost daily where people are screaming for help because they've lost all of their entries.
