DO NOT WORK FOR TOTH TRANSCRIPTION. They will not pay you and have not paid a large number of other people. They are scam artists. DO NOT WORK FOR TOTH TRANSCRIPTION. I have been robbed of almost three months of my life and have been paid less than 20 dollars.

This is also a good example of how much it costs in the end when someone chooses a less expensive school. I have seen posters here who state--well they guarantee a job! But what kind of job?
I hate to hear stories like these.

I'm not sure the cost of school has a whole lot to do with MTSOs that are scam artists. Andrews and M-Tec grads are just as susceptible to stiffing by a financially unwise MTSO as any other school grad or MT who cut their teeth on the job.

I agree that even the most seasoned can fall prey to unscrupulous business owners, but it is also true that the novice is more prone to this than the veteran.
When I read the OP's post my first thought was how she let the situation continue for three months and only $20. I suspect that there is more to the story than what has been given us at this point. Either way, the OP's post comes across as one of a disgruntled employee, since no details are given and we only have the one side, as limited as that is.

I agree with you about the school topic, I went to Allied (yay!), and would never recommend it to anyone, but was uninformed when I signed up for the courses. And the reason I stayed on for 2 months (plus the two weeks after I have given my two weeks' notice) was to gain experience, seeing how it was very difficult for me to find a job being an Allied grad. Sort of an "internship" in my mind. I was told that I would be paid on June first for work in April (when I started), so I decided to get the experience while giving them the benefit of the doubt and wait until June to quit.
I am only trying to warn people that may be in the position I was in only months ago. NO not EVERYONE gets the memo to go to M-Tec or Andrews before they start out on this endeavor... so I'm only puting out a warning. I am not a "disgruntled" employee. I am warning people that this company is unethical and a SCAM. But hey, thanks for understanding.

Linzee,
I'm sorry that happened to you. That particular company has had complaints about it regarding pay and other matters going back for years.
Hopefully you will have a better experience with your next MT job. It's always a good idea to come to boards like this and ask around before signing on with an MTSO. Most are on the up and up but there are a few out there that are not, and word gets out about them quickly.
Again I am really sorry that that happened to you, but at least you got a couple of months of experiece out of those rotten eggs....

I recall seeing similar complaints about this company over in the MT Companies forum here recently. Linzee, I really hope your next endeavor works out for you.

I think what happens is this: The worse the school, the less likely you'll get a job off the bat, then one gets desperate and takes anything they can get their hands on. Another good reason to just do it right to begin with. Your school will only direct you toward legitimate companies.

I am a former mentor of Allstate. Deb owes me almost $1000 (this is for 2-1/2 months work) When I gave my notice, my accounts were locked immediately and I was unable to get my line counts to send invoices. In fact, I couldn't even edit my interns documents. Then when decided not to give a 2 week notice since I was told I would be put on probation if I stayed, I was told that I forfeited all of my earnings because I signed an IC contract. Don't be stupid. If you are an experienced MT, stay far away and go to a hospital which is where I previously worked. I regret my decision to leave the hospital (due to health issues) because I was always treated fairly and paid well and on time bi-weekly, with benefits. If you are thinking about paying 99.00 to sign up for the intern program, big mistake, because if you have already graduated from an MT program, hospitals will hire you to work without you paying them (and the hospital sometimes even pays you a salary to boot, even though it is lower than a seasoned MT) My point is, there are many better opportunities out there. I am posting this because I am a genuinely honest (and yes Christian) person and I should have known better, especially when she didn't even bother testing me. I don't want others to be fooled by this so called "Christian" organization. When you get paid, it will take 2 or 3 months and if you decide you can't afford to work there and quit, you just do not get paid period. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!
