Voice Recorders -- Different folder per patient?

I am helping my client switch over to a digital voicer recorder. I provided him with research, and he came up with a question that I could not answer, even after doing pretty extensive research here as well as the Internet. We are looking at the Sony ICD-MX20 and the Olympus DS-2300. Each uses removable memory sticks. He said he had read that they might create different folders for each recording session (i.e., a separate folder for each patient). He didn't seem to mind this but wondered if this would be a problem for me. I started thinking about it and thought that might be a hassle to have to open each one separately, not to mention the fact that it would really slow me down. It seems that the Olympus does not do this, but I could not find any info on the Sony regarding this. Does anyone have experience with this problem? Thanks for your help!

Default behavior with digital recording is to create a new file (not folder) for each dictation. You can just keep adding and adding on to a single recording file if you absolutely insist. Personally, I beat up any client who tries that since it makes it one heck of a lot harder to find a given dictation if they want a stat, to divide up work, to quickly confirm whether or not they did a dictation on patient X, etc. Also, they're all too likely to record over rather than add on at some point if they keep appending, which won't make for a happy client.
How files load depends on what playback as well as recording software you use. I load a batch of files at once and deleting the one I just did and skipping down to the next is a matter of just a couple of keystrokes. YMMV depending on how you set things up.

Thank you so much for your help! It is always beneficial to get the perspective of someone experienced! What you said makes sense, and I will pass this along to my client. Thanks again for your time!
