Does anyone have any ideas on who will hire new graduates?
Thanks so much!

Your school should be able to provide you the names of companies that hire their graduates.

Many employers do, but they specify what kind of training or experience the applicant must have. In other words, if a school has a good track record with them, they will want more of their graduates and they will contact the school to arrange for graduates to apply with them. They rarely announce job openings. If they did, they would be flooded with people who believe they can do the job, but can't. Some haven't had training at all and others have had inadequate training or graduated from schools with a track record of not teaching what needs to be taught.
It's impossible for employers to test all of the applicants who apply, so they do have to set guidelines. First, go check with your school. There may be an official placement person, but your instructor may be the best resource. Instructors usually know where most of the graduates are being hired. Now if they aren't being hired, that would be a problem. We'll hope that's not the case.
Good luck with your job search.

I have just logged into MT.chat and I am already learning many things. As a recent graduate, I am finding it very hard to get a medical transcription job. I thought that I had done my research and had found a good school, although from what I am hearing, Allied is not such a good school. I do know that I am so tired of hearing those ads that tell you how many positions there are in transcription and that lead you to believe that once the course is completed, there are just tons of people waiting to hire you. Not so!! I am old enough to have known better, but I was hoping to become a transcriptionist so that I could work from home on a part time basis to supplement my income. It all sounded so good! So, now I am trying to find a job and it sounds like it may not be very easy to do just that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well, you can't go back, but you can move forward and choose another school wisely. If you choose one of the big 2 (by now you know what they are), you'll more than likely be employed when you're finished. Assuming you've exhausted several MT companies and they won't test you or you can't pass the test, starting over as I stated above is the best advice I can give.

Going back to school right now is really not an option for me. I am just going to have to keep looking and I think that I am going to narrow my scope and look more at some local doctor's offices where I might actually know somebody who would give me a chance. While I had hoped to work at home, I also think that may not be an option now. I'm just going to keep trying, the old fashioned way. I'm going to send out some resumes by mail as well as by fax when I can. I'm probably just too impatient! Thanks for listening.

Hey Cheryl, I am so in the same boat as you... Allied sounded like such a good choice, until I tried to find a job when I graduated. Have you found a job yet, or do you have any other good advice to offer?

Hey Cheryl and wannatype,
Just wanted to chime in and let you both know that you are not the only ones out there who found out tooo late that the school you chose was not the best. I did the same thing but not with Allied, I went through a course called At-Home Professions, and I am so unsatisfied with the training that I wish I could get my money back. But anyway I am on the job hunt also. Good Luck and Best Wishes to you both.

Try some the smaller companies. Sometimes they will take a chance on someone and work with them. The big nationals just don't have time for that it seems, although they could use a personal touch also. Read MTjobs, there are other listings too, type in google "medical transcription jobs". Some of the smaller companies list in places other than mtstars. Good luck. I am confident you both will have success.
