My son-in-love is joining the Navy. I know so far that my daughter and grandbaby will be stayin with us thru the bootcamp part. Any ideas what to expect after that? Will he automatically be deployed or get to move on to the training that he wants? Do they if in training get to live on base and have their families with them? My dad was in the Navy, but that was when I was really little and all I know is we were in San Diego and did not live on base so I dont know how all this works lol. Thanks for your time!

Rose, I have no experience with the Navy, but I will tell you what the norm is for the AF. He will finish bootcamp/tech school, then be assigned a base (usually a 2 or 3 year term). It will depend if base housing is available and, if so, they will be assigned base housing. If not, they can find somewhere off base and get pay for rent/expenses. Tell him to look into BAH/BAQ. It might take a little while for all the paperwork to go through, but that is the norm for the military. He might get sent to a different base for specialist training depending on what he wants to do. I doubt that he will be deployed right away, but I can't say that with any certainty at the moment with all that is going on.

You're more than welcome. I check the forums every day so if you think of anything else just holler at me. My husband still works on the AF base so if we don't know the answer to a question he can probably find someone who does.
