Do these parents never think of the poor kid's future when they slap a weirdo name on them?

How about the parents who take a normal name and get "creative" with the spelling?? This dooms the child to a lifetime of correcting others in the spelling of a name. Very annoying for all concerned.

Found these on a weirdest celebrity kid names list.
#15.Kyd Child Of: David Duchovny and Tea Leoni
We enjoy a whimsical play on words as much as the next website, and the Duchovnys apparently shared a hearty chuckle at the thought of being able to shout, "Hey, kid!" and secretly know it was spelled with a "Y." If you go that direction, why not take it all the way and go with "Phatboi" or "Rhettard?" Both will stay funnier a lot longer than "Kyd."
#6.Audio Science Child Of: Actress Shannyn Sossamon
It's true that Shannyn Sossamon just barely qualifies as a celebrity, but she forces her way onto this list with this exceptionally bizarre name. We learn with this entry that the only thing sadder than a pretentious baby name is a failed attempt at a pretentious baby name that ends up sounding like the name of a class at a local community college.
Edited to add, did she not take into consideration this kid's initials are now A.S.S.?
#2.Tu Morrow Child Of: Rob Morrow (from the TV show Numb3rs)
Now, we've just about reached the lowest of the low. Below the wacky joke names, and the pretentious hippie names, we have the pun names. Tu Morrow. We've heard tales of these people; the ones named "Mary Christmas" and "Candy Barr" and "Ruby Cox." It's not only the worst kind of name, it's the worst kind of humor. "Tu Morrow?" That's not one of those things that starts out funny and then wears out its welcome with time; that stops being funny before you say it. It doesn't get any worse than this.
#1.Jermajesty Child Of: Jermaine Jackson
We stand corrected.

I am even more thankful for my normal name after reading some of those.

We could have used that judge in our circuit when a mom at one of the hospitals where I used to work decided to name her baby girl "Vagina." She liked how it sounded - even after it was explained to her what it meant.
Then there was the lady whose 8th child was a little boy who was named "Caboose." At that point, mom didn't care what her religion required. She had a tubal.
Makes "Princess Leia" and "Bambi" almost sound normal doesn't it?

Wow. And I've been annoyed all my life by having to tell people my name is Deborah and not Debra.

Try having a name like Leslie. I've been called Lisa and Laurie more times than I can count just because someone is not familiar with the name or can't figure out how to pronounce it.

A friend of mine from high school had a dog named Kat and a cat named Dawg. She also had a lizard named Tweetie and a parakeet named Lizzie. But at least she and her siblings had nice "normal" people names. They just had a goofy sense of humor when it came to naming their huge menagerie of pets (they practically had a zoo).

How about being in the park and having some woman call her kids whose names were Destiny and Chance? That got a lot of people's attention.
We had somebody in our hospital try to name the kid "Placenta".

A friend was just telling me that she hated when people asked her questions meant for one of her co-workers. She had to tell them to go to Helen Waite.

I have a comment, a question, and a weird family member.
Firstly, Deb, I have always seen and used/spelled Deborah and just recently ran into someone named Debra. I think the latter is an odd spelling and less popular, at least in my little world :o).
As for my question; who is named Moon Unit? Rather, who are the parents? I always thought John Mellencamp's daughter's name was the worst - Speck Wildhorse Mellencamp.
Lastly, my cousin just named her third child Aivree Warner (first and middle names). The child is a girl! She is going to despise her mother when she is old enough to do so. Not only is Avery a boy's name for the most part, but it is spelled Avery, not Aivree. I call her The Baby or Every Corner (that is what her 2-year-old sister calls her). My cousin will learn when her daughter is about 12, or maybe even younger.

Moon Unit is Frank Zappa's daughter. I also hear that David Bowie's son, originally named Zowie, changed his name to something more normal when he came of age.
BTW - my husband thinks its hilarious that he went to school with a guy named Harry Bush.

Moon Unit is Frank Zappa's daughter. Alas, he didn't stop there. His other kids are Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan (after a Japanese movie monster of the same name), Diva Magika (supposedly louder than the other babies in the nursery). He claims it didn't matter what he named his kids because it was their last name that would give them the most grief.
I heard Penn Jillette (of Penn & Teller) named his daughter Moxie CrimeFighter Jillette. I suspect you wouldn't have to go beyond Hollywood to find 1000 more ridiculous monikers. Apparently, celebrity gives you special dispensation to saddle your kids with as much baggage as possible.

Unfortunately, these impressive monikers aren't limited to celebrities or even to this century. I had a great-great-great grandmother named Submit. (She must have too, cuz she had about 10 kids!)

When I was working in a nursing home years ago, there was a resident named Honor, she was in her late 80s. I asked her once about her name. She said her mother let her father name the baby. Her father's friend told him a joke/poem and it stuck with him. It went:
She offered her honor. He honored her offer. All night long It was honor and offer.
She hated her name.

Shannyn Sossoman has a kid? I love her. Wondered why she hadn't been making any movies.
Also, I think that Aivree is a lovely name for a girl.
Destiny is actually a really popular name. Especially among strippers.
