Does your friend want to get a job after graduating from a school, or just the achievement of getting through school?
Since so many here feel and often say that two schools stand out for preparing their graduates for WAH jobs right out of graduation, I think it would be a better exercise to demonstrate why anyone would want to go to any other than those two schools.
In my humble opinion, I am wondering if going to school at all does pay, as I heard that transcribers in India are up and running after a quick three-month training program.

That's not been my experience as far as length of training time, but I would also mention that their work is usually under 100% QA review for far longer - if not permanently.
I would think companies would object to providing the same level of QA review for an American MT as for a global MT, and would not hire an American MT who tests at the level of the average global MT. I imagine global MTs are paid a certain amount which has the QA figured into it, and the same with American MTs. Americans are still generally paid more than global MTs, as far as I know, so companies expect a higher level of skill, knowledge, and competence.

If you are happy to be paid only a penny or two per line and don't mind being required to commute to work in an office, not at home, by all means head for one of those quick three-month training programs in India.
