Hi everyone! I'd like to ask you the favor of positive thoughts and prayers for me and my family. My marriage - never great to begin with - has hit the skids and I'm a little apprehensive at the prospect of being a single mom. I'll need a career change as well as my current 3 jobs don't offer medical benefits. The kids and I will also be moving, hopefully within the school district. At the same time, my mom was just diagnosed with some pretty serious heart problems and I'm very worried about her. A lot to deal with all at once and I'd appreciate kind words, prayer and support to get us through. Thanks!

You are in my prayers, BlankKeys. I am so sorry that you are going through this. That is a lot to handle at one time. And your children will be going through a lot too. Check with an attorney. It's possible that the courts could have your husband pay for medical benefits.

Praying for you here. Vikki is right, you need to get an attorney, even your local Attorney General will get the paperwork going to get child support and insurance for your kids from your husband. Hang in there. You are going thru a lot right now and I can imagine how hard it is, just know there are lots praying for you and sending encouraging/positive thoughts your way!

Thanks so much Vikki and Rose! I do appreciate the support. I just got back from a meeting with a counselor at a local women's group. She's been with me since spring and is helping me get things together. My soon-to-be ex is a retired cop, which makes things a little rough, but we'll get there. Your advice about an attorney was spot on. My counselor, Anne, is the senior legal advisor for the group and is going to work with me on that. Thanks again for your prayers.

Thanks for the support! I hope I'm going in the right direction. My counselor says that when things all line up and fall into place, you know you're doing the right thing. I'd love to hear from anyone who's a single mom who has any words of wisdom. These are uncharted waters for me and I need all the tips I can get.

Definitely! At the moment, I live in the same house with an ex-cop who throws temper tantrums on a regular basis, a 10-year-old daughter who thinks she's Evil Knievel, a 15-year-old son with Asperger's syndrome and a neurotic lab. If I didn't have patience, I'd be in the nuthouse by now ... wait, maybe I am!

Patience is definitely a plus! I am also a single mom of 4 kids, but only 2 live with me. I have my two boys, ages 9 and 4 with me and my girls live with their dad, ages 12 and 7. The year we got divorced was definitely my hardest!! But, you do move on and some things get easier. My ex is required by law to hold insurance for the kids. That is Illinois state law and also part of our divorce decree. We have both declined support payments, its just easier in a way that way. Since our divorce, my oldest son was diagnosed with Asperger's. Seems we have coincidences.
