What is the consensus on this site re: outsourcing, voice recognition software, and the future of MT as a profession?

I don't think there's a consensus on the site, but it's certainly been discussed several times. You could probably even search with future of MT as keywords and browse through some of the previous topics.

Endiqua did, and summed it up rather concisely. She also gave you advice on how to see how this topic has been discussed ad nauseum here on this board by searching our archives.

I know I am being compulsive, but it is ad nauseAM, not ad nauseum. Makes sense when one thinks it through just a bit...the root is nausEA not nausEU. Do the research........
This one's almost as bad as 'your' for 'you're.'

OK, BC, personal 'gotcha' noted.
I'm sure the OP appreciates your contribution as well.

This one's almost as bad as 'your' for 'you're.' No way. Especially since it's not used nearly as often!

Search our archives here.
Make sure you choose the completely blank choice for both Newer Than and Older Than fields. Use keywords like future, outsourcing, voice, and recognition, perhaps doing searches separately.

OK, well, I'm not finding anything. Oh well! Can anyone recommend another source for finding information on these topics? I've heard different things from different people and want to try to see if there's some consensus on this somewhere.

Learning to research is vital skill for being an MT.
I will add, I've never gotten a good search return on this board with more than one word in my search. One word only. So pick that word carefully.
With just the words recognition and future I found the following...
New MTs had... MT...can you make a living? Looking for advice Finish MT education?
MT Biz had... Is it worth it? Just curious Would you do it over again What is the future for MTs How many of you would do it again How long do you think or .....
The Hot Zone had... Intelligent Language processing Transcription position losses are industry trend
Some might only have a little on the topic, some a lot. There is no one thread with everything you need. You must read them all and glean what you want and need. Pull the wheat from the weeds. You may have to read topics with nothing in them just to see. Some of these are pages and pages into the forum, 6, 7, 8 pages down. If you really want to know you really have to look. The info is out there. It won't jump in your lap. You have to work at it.
