Hi all,
These tests are all over the net, but does anyone know what the grading criteria for these are? I have done some with good result and even picked up a new IC client, but others that I swore I had every word correct, I never heard from again.

What is your experience??? And with which companies?

Having the local work dry up for independent contractors in my area, I was recently going through the process of looking for a service to work for, I had to go through the battery of tests for different companies. I know they have to weed out applicants but these tests are tedious and extremely time consuming. I am working for a great company now and really hope I do not have to go through that again. It would be great if there was one general test that you can take once and then submit to individual companies. I can wish, can't I?

You're right, they are tedious and time consuming.

One standard test that all the companies would look at, like a civil service test, would be a really good idea. However, I think they compete too much with each other to cooperate in that way even though it would save them time and money also.

Those tests are really no indication of how well or how poorly an MT will perform on the job.

It's really annoying for seasoned MTs to have to take those stupid things and do well and then never hear from them or worse, you do hear from them and they say "I can't believe you have as much experience you say you have as your test score was awful" when in fact you know you did well.

This procedure is just another way the management can jerk you around and try to take you down to their level which is pretty low in some cases.

Years back, a lot of companies just did a verbal exam over the phone. They would ask you about your computer knowledge, anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. I think they assumed you knew how to construct a sentence and past and present tenses and proper English.

They make such a big deal out of nothing. Again, this is all management again and the rationale to involve such incompetent people into the ranks of recruiting. Just think of the money these companies would save if they got rid of management? It would certainly be a huge improvement for the MT and maybe they could afford to pay us more too. It seems management creates more problems than they ever solve. Companies go broke paying management salaries, not MTs and who is the backbone of a company, its workers not management
