A man agrees to plead guilty to murder in exchange for never having to put up with prison food. See here. It's worthy of the Readers Digest "That's outrageous" category.

I'm not seeing the downside here.
The taxpayers won't have to pay for his food (admittedly a small savings), but it will place a target on his back from within the prison population. Chances are better than even that this convict won't be serving his whole sentence and will leave the prison early, on a body bag.

I don't see where it says or implies that he's going to get that food all the time once he's in prison anyway. It appears to be a one-time (or maybe twice) thing.
"... only if he could get a break from jail food."
"... granted Durham a feast ..."
"After Wednesday's sentencing, Durham was to get the rest of the deal — calzones, lasagna, pizza and ice cream, his defense attorney confirmed. They will pay the tab."

You may be right, Deb.
I was accepting BC's post as factual. Emphasis mine.
A man agrees to plead guilty to murder in exchange for never having to put up with prison food.

You are probably right. Excerpt:Durham agreed to plead guilty to murder — but only if he could get a break from jail food. The judge agreed and granted Durham a feast of KFC chicken, Popeye's chicken, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, carrot cake and ice cream.
After Wednesday's sentencing, Durham was to get the rest of the deal — calzones, lasagna, pizza and ice cream, his defense attorney confirmed. They will pay the tab. It really was hard to imagine it being a permanent thing despite getting that impression from the way the link was presented on Nealz Nuze (emphasis mine):A New York man pleaded guilty to murder, but only after the judge agreed to let the man have KFC chicken, Popeye's chicken, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, carrot cake and ice cream during his life sentence.

I think his new wife gets the best deal. She doesn't have to cook for him, she knows where he is at night and he's not underfoot.

He won't be giving her much financial support, but maybe he's got a great life insurance policy.

At least it will save the taxpayers some money.
