Ya know, this is the last straw. China is so obsessed with looking perfect, they completely miss the REAL issues...like Darfur. Give me a freakin' break.

http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/news?slug=ap-china-lip-synchedsong&prov=ap&type=lgns

I hope the little girl who REALLY sang becomes so amazingly famous that the Chinese government can't hold her back (but they'll probably just have her killed off or banished somewhere) and that the officials who decided this are stricken with some nasty disease that makes all their faces so disgustingly horrifying they're kicked out of their own country for being so butt-ugly. Truth be known, it's probably a criteria for choosing their athletes...Uh yeah, you're one of our best but you're just not CUTE enough, buh-bye.

I don't think the MISS the real issues, they just don't CARE about what WE consider to be real issues. Remember, China is authoritarian. They don't give a wank about anyone but themselves.

When America completely resolves all of our homegrown human rights abuses I might could get a bit worked up about what some other government is doing, but, seriously, I just don't see this as our business.

Sure, that'll happen. No one wants to address issues here, there's absolutely nothing wrong, Trops. We are the best country in the whole wide world. Didn't you know that?

All kidding aside, we are pretty good at sweeping our crap under a thick pile rug, but we LOVE to tell other countries how to do their job. It's like a really good shrink who is a great help to her patients but can't solve her own problems to save her life.

Bush used the Olympics to further spread Christianity in China. Did you catch that little segment with Costas? Wanker.

The opening ceremonies are entertainment. Lip synching, body doubles, and computer enhancements are commonly used in Hollywood and elsewhere. I just don't think I can make the leap to comparing this decision to the atrocities in Darfur.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Vernondi!! You're a breath of fresh air, I back you 100% on everything!

Piglet and Tropsicle, I'm a better judge of character than I thought I was, I wouldn't expect any other response from both of you.

I can not believe what I'm reading here! This is a little girl with little kid feelings. I remember them, I'm sorry you two where born without them. Good or bad it's part of growing up, a BIG part. The parents are probably crying their eyes out, wouldn't you? I would if it was my little girl.

Can you just stop bashing America for at least five minutes and put yourselves in this lovely little girl's shoes and try to imagine how she feels? I cannot believe this, really!!

Something this sad, and all you can do is talk about how horrible my country is. You should go to China, throw tomatoes at this poor little girl, that couldn't perform, then point at her teeth and laugh at her. Then you can really yuck it up.

One sad little girl and two bully juvenile delinquents. You should be proud.

I'm sorry, and I'm being serious, what does the acronym MISS stand for?

"All kidding aside, we are pretty good at sweeping our crap under a thick pile rug, but we LOVE to tell other countries how to do their job. It's like a really good shrink who is a great help to her patients but can't solve her own problems to save her life."...Piglet
I learn something new every day on this board. If I ever need one, I'll make sure I get a "him" shrink.

"Bush used the Olympics to further spread Christianity in China. Did you catch tat little segment with Costas? Wanker."...Piglet

"When America completely resolves all of our homegrown human rights abuses I might could(?) get a bit worked up about what some other government is doing, but, seriously, I just don't see this our business."...Tropsicle or TropsicleAfter

Apparently, the one where every boobie who thinks the way to ingratiate himself into a community by playing the arse at every opportunity is free to do so.

The one where we can voice our opinions on any subject, including our country.

Gee, Craig, I'm just so impressed by your clever rebuttals, including focusing on an obvious typo; completely ignoring the actual gist of the response to focus on a pronoun; and quoting two sentences to apparently make some sort of accusation of puppetry. Way to win people to your side, man.

Craig, if you're for real, you need to get someone to help you peel those rose-colored glasses off your face (after you put the flag down).

Does our country have problems with wanting to save face? YES.

Is it sad that we do that? Damn, right.

Is it sad that China did the same thing? Absolutely.

Uh...doesn't that sum it up?

Why do you assume that the girl whose voice was used was upset about what happened? From what I've read more than once, it didn't bother her that much. She was just glad they used her voice. That to me sounds like she's taking it pretty well. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.

I've been thinking most of the morning of how to respond to being called a bullying juvenile delinquent by Craig. I reviewed my post and find it, if anything, more bland than usual.

Craig, you are a troll, if not in the internet definition (which I think you are), then at least in your heart. You find it 'fun' to do drive-by postings, calling names and reveling in being obnoxious and obstinate. To me, that makes you much more like a juvenile bully than I. You give the well-educated, well-meaning, and well-intentioned conservatives that do feel a part of this community a bad name by association, and if I were one I would say the same thing to you. At best, you will be ignored, but if you continue in this vein I see worse things in your future.

I've said to other conservatives here that I have no problem separating their ideas from the person, but, with you, not so much.

Good luck with your coding career, if and when you graduate. I'm sure your personality will afford you well in the kind of professional settings that you will encounter.

There is a silver lining, though. You could re-register with another screen name and come back without all the hate and animosity, and perhaps even fit in with this community, contributing and discussing the issues reasonably.

BF: Agreed - and the little girl is certainly handling the situation better (and with more grace and maturity) than "Craig" is.

I totally agree, MK. I think some people just like adding fuel to an already dwindling fire.

Thank you, trops. I am one of those well-meaning, well-intentioned conservatives on this board. I won't say well-educated because then I'm sure to do something to show ignorance! \:\) I am embarrassed by what Craig is doing and find myself shaking my head in disbelief at much of what he has written. I have not agreed with you, trops, on some things, but you are an all-around class act!

Just wondering...

As Piglet said, China's government is authoritarian. Does anyone here believe that the little girl or her family would feel free to express any sadness or disappointment at what happened without facing reprisal?

I don't. I feel sorry for the little girl --- branded world-wide as not cute enough and denied the experience of performing at the Olympics.

Well, considering that Chinese officials agreed to allow free press, but then banned any and all websites that pertained to Tiannamen and Darfur and the Dalai Lama (as well as others, I don't recall them all), and reportedly forged (or failed to report) their air pollution levels (by closing several monitoring stations that recorded record-high pollution levels), entered a whole team of underage female gymnastic competitors (how many 16 y/o kids do you know of still losing their baby teeth??), all the while claiming they're of age based on their government issued passports, revoking the visa of a Darfur activist, and beating up 2 Japanese reporters who were reporting on a bomb attack. This is the same government who takes 3 y/o girls away from their families and forces them to train like slaves as athletes (don't tell me the parents have a choice about that, I'd have to say you're full of hooey). The Chinese people don't get a choice, they are so forcefully monitored, they're not allowed to have opinions. I'm pretty darn sure this little girl and her family were told exactly what to say to "save face" and not to disgrace the Chinese government. These people are no better than the Taliban when it comes to basic human rights.
