Obama’s socialist backing goes back at least to 1996, when he received the endorsement of the Chicago branch of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) for an Illinois state senate seat. Later, the Chicago DSA newsletter reported that Obama, as a state senator, showed up to eulogize Saul Mendelson, one of the “champions” of “Chicago’s democratic left” and a long-time socialist activist. Obama’s stint as a “community organizer” in Chicago has gotten some attention, but his relationship with the DSA socialists, who groomed and backed him, has been generally ignored.
Do we want socialism? With the continued efforts of creating more of a nanny state isn't that where we are headed?

As a politician, Obama has probably been endorsed by lots of groups ranging from firemen to comunity activists. If you weren't so afraid of the word "socialism" you might discover some interesting facts about it.

There is nothing wrong with adopting some socialist views. There are pros and cons to any political theology. Democracy is certainly not all pros. There are humanitarian holes in all of them. Shutting your ears to the possibility of adopting something new, perhaps controversial, but could be of potential benefit does the country an injustice.

You still have not shown me, nor have I heard that McCain has threatened anyone. You just keep saying he is going to do things he has not even implied he will do.

Oh, I think everyone knows that your mind will not be changed. I just think that it is important to know what you are voting for. As the real BO is so elusive, facts are essential in making an educated decision, pros and cons.

Yes there are pros and cons to all political views. But each must be weighed accordingly. Sacrificing our civil rights is not an option to me.

Here is the platform of the USA Socialist Party. Read, and be not afraid of the word Socialism. Is Obama a Socialist? Unfortunately not. Obama is a Capitalist who believes in the fundamentals of the current Capitalist system. He is basically a "system tweaker" with ideas of altering/modifying programs and the like a little this way or a little that way but within the parameters of the current system.
My own thinking veers towards Socialism, and neither Obama nor McCain tilt in that direction.
If Obama gets elected you will get no radical changes, just some mere "tweaks." If McCain gets elected you will likely see more radical changes in that a great deal more of the GDP will be spent regarding wars. McCain is a guy salivating for the next "big one." He lives on that and for that. Of the two candidates McCain is by far the more radical.

Interestingly enough, I keep hearing people saying that they have lost rights due to FISA and the patriot act. When I ask them what rights they have lost all I get is well, I feel uncomfortable knowing someone MIGHT be listening to my phone calls. I have lost NO rights. What rights have you directly lost?

Privacy.
The simple fact is that you don't know if anyone has listened in to your calls. Maybe they have, maybe they have not. You HAVE lost the right to expect a certain degree of privacy in your communications. OK, so you are not in direct touch with a terrorist from the ME. Do you really want some government hack mining data out of any of your phone calls? Maybe you feel you are so squeaky clean that you have nothing to worry about, that you break no laws and therefore you d not care if they monitor your activities. OK, that's your right to feel that way. However, you are giving up rights when you allow your government to listen in.
Again, I find it amazing that a conservative, usually all about less government interference in our lives, allows for this kind of surveillance unopposed.
This is simply a response to your statement about sacrificing our civil rights. I accept that you don't see it that way, but millions of others DO see it that way.

The right to privacy. FISA is in contradiction of the fourth amendment. You have lost the right to have private conversation on a telephone line that YOU pay for.
Ever hear of DARPA? DARPA instituted a program called the Total Information Awareness Program back in 2002, halted by Congress in late 2003. It made FISA look like a walk in the park. This lovely little infringement data mined billions of hours off the Internet until Congress decided it was just too hot, even after they changed the name to Terrorism Information Awareness Program. It's all about being big brother. It's bullsh*t and it needs to stop.

You know, Ann, this really is a perfect example of why many find your discussion/debate style lacking. I asked you a simple yes or no question and, instead of answering that, you attacked what you assumed was the premise behind that question. In other threads, you seem to latch on to when your questions are not answered, but your history demonstrates that you are just as prone to avoid answering questions as those that don't answer yours.
