I should know this . . .

How do you turn off that drop down menu that appears when you start to type in your search terms? I have cleared all history, unchecked everything on Auto Complete. I'm wondering if something is overriding the Internet Options function.

Did you restart your computer after making those changes to your Internet Options?

Yes, I did restart. Guess I'll try to clear everything again before I shut down for the night. I can't remember what I did last time to turn it off. . . . so I was wondering if I was even close with the Auto Complete . . . unless I've inadvertently plugged in an advanced search or something.

I wish I could remember back to when I used IE. You should just go ahead and convert to Firefox. \:\)

I'm a bit lost (big surprise). Are you using the Google Toolbar or just the Google website? With the website, you can just click on the search bar once or twice (your searches should show up) and hold down Delete and everything goes poof. With the toolbar, you can tweak things in the Search Box settings under Options. I may be way off so I hope Google Help helped you!

Nope, I haven't figured it out yet. Darn. I don't have the toolbar, it's just the website.

ETA: Figured it out.

Woohoo! What was the problem if you don't mind posting?

Oh, the toolbar is wonderful if the company allows it. It was taken off my work computer and I raised heck until the IT guy put it back on (along with Google Desktop).

I shouldn't have said drop down menu. It's kind of like a pick list in Shorthand. When you type in a search term, it drops down a bunch of possible choices to narrow down that term (I guess).

I'm sure some people like that option, it just aggravates me for some reason.

That sounds like Google Suggest, which I use at work (love it!) but not at home. I linked you to the FAQ page in case you need it for future reference. \:\)

More on Google Suggest - if you don't care for that option.

http://lifehacker.com/5042006/disable-google-suggest

Not thrilled at the announcement that Google Suggest will soon be baked into your search box by default? Worry not! You can disable the autosuggesting search to return your Google search box to its old, non-backseat-driver self. Just head to the Google Preferences page, find the Query Suggestions section at the bottom of the page, and select Do not provide query suggestions in the search box. Now thank Google Operating System and return to your regularly scheduled internetting.
