Some of our students raised money by selling home-cooked casseroles, desserts, and whatnot to friends and relatives. If you are known for some yummy dish, you might be pleasantly surprised by how much money you could make this way.
I recall we've had some students who cleaned houses and washed cars. Once they explained what they wanted to do, friends and relatives were happy to "contribute" to the cause. Some did so by buying casseroles or house-cleaning services, and others were so impressed by the prospective student's plans that they just donated.
The yard sale is a good suggestion. Some students report that they didn't think they had anything to sell, but once they began looking, they found they had loads of stuff. They made enough to cover tuition and they never missed the items.
