Doc is recommending "open reduction and internal fixation, possibly with Peeven's."

This is a comminuted distal intraarticular fracture of the radius with volar angulation.

A couple of days late and not much use any more but I bet he was just saying and slurring "PINS" ("pee-yuns")

I am reporting back after getting it from QA- and you're right (of course) it was pins. First day of a new doc with a good ol' Tennessee twang. Need to brush up on my southern draaawlll. You should hear him say "period." That's a hoot too.

PINS I get hung up on, sheesh.

Thanks, Ann.

Hey, it took me 2 days to think of it! And literally, I was sitting here staring at the "word help" list waiting for something slow to come up, I saw the word "peevens" and //clang//

it happens that way sometimes.

Don't feel too badly. You should see what the Indian transcriptionists do with a good ol' Boston accent, or worse yet, Brooklyn. The things I've proofread!

On a former account I had an ESL of unknown etiology (never did figure out what nationality, Middle East of some kind) who said "period" 3 or 4 times every sentence: pee-lee-yo.

Currently on one hospital I have a Russian "groaner" (when I see her name I groan) who, when she is "thinking" says "for" over and over and over.

Does it sound something like "PEE-(y)ud"? I have a Texan cardiologist who says it like that. He sounds more like he's from South Carolina, though.

More like "PAR-a-yuh" so it kind of sounds like paragraph- I am constantly having to decide if every sentence is supposed to be a paragraph or have a period.

Accents are funny, aren't they? I could swear us Marylanders don't have one... \:\)
