"The patient has developed proliferative vitreal retinopathy with anterior inferior *lubefaction*." Only thing close I can find is rubefaction, but the definition is off. The first part of the word is unclear, but the end really sounds like -faction.

Putting in "*faction" at onelook shows "lubrifaction." Could that be it?

spring, lubrifaction is a synonym of lubrication -- I don't see how that fits a retinal abnormaliy.

JRT, since proliferative vitreal retinopathy involves growth of blood vessels and sometimes hemorrhage, it seems to me that rubefaction (which to me implies redness and a hint of swelling) fits pretty well.

First let me ammend the above and say it is vitreoretinopathy, as I have discovered researching the rube/lubefaction part.

Ann, the only thing that I can find documented about PVR and redness is a site that said the retina may have "vitreous haze and pigment clumps." That said, I don't see what else it possibly could be. No other word sounds close enough.

Thanks, both of you, for the suggestions above.

Gimminy, HOW many months has it been and I am JUST getting this answer (but I finally went straight to the horses -docs- mouth on this one!) But, better late than never, so its...

Can't visualize it and have never run across it, but it certainly shows up with a Google search. Too bad most of the articles are subscription only.

Thanks for the feedback, JRT. That's real dedication to come back after all these months!

My pleasure! Hope it helps someone else sometime. \:\)

I almost helped myself, since the second time the doc said this I googled lubefaction and the third or so item down was an old MTChat post, and I thought, 'Oohh, great, they will surely have it!' but it was my original post!
