Doing an IME and I want it to be perfect. Am I using the followups and follow up correctly?

She did return to the area for routine followups with Dr. XXX. The patient reports that by October of 2006, her care and medical follow up was terminated.

Routine followup is correct. Medical follow up is incorrect. Should be medical followup. See below for examples.

Followup appointments. Patient will follow up. Clinic followup in 6 weeks. Look at it this way: You would say patient followedup. You would say patient followed up. That's one way to assess the word when you're not sure. Follow up is the verb form (an action). Followup is the noun or adjective, depending on how it's used.

This brings up a pet peeve of mine for the doctors group I do almost all my work for. They insist on always using the "follow up" regardless of it being a verb or noun/adjective. They even have it that way in their categories, ie "Comprehensive Follow Up" is the category for annual physical etc.

Sorry, small rant. :P

It has been brought to my attention that the new BOS says that "followup" is now acceptable no matter how it is used in a sentence.

Not for this MT.

OMG. I'm so old-fashioned that the dropped hyphen still bothers me, although at least there are a few dictionaries now that cross-reference that variant. However, bastardized noun/adjective form is now the new verb form as well? I don't think so.

Good heavens. Somebody please tell me this is a mistake. That doesn't even make sense. Hopefully they mean "followup" instead of "follow-up" but NOT "followup" instead of "follow up" ?

Next thing you know, we'll be dropping "apostrophe s" because too many people can't learn how/when to use it!

I haven't read it myself, but I was told that it says it can be used as "followup" for all three ways.

Yeah, let's just change things up because so many MTs just couldn't seem to get one of the easiest things in MT right. Again, though, I have not seen this myself.

They already did that with eponyms. So now instead of just misplacing the apostrophe, people misspell the ones ending in s.
