Coworkers were researching this today and I wanted to know what others' experience is on this. How is the tendo achillis used? Is it totally different from Achilles tendon? We use mainly Stedman books, but since there are several of us, there's a mix of opinions. Can anyone shed light on how to use these terms? This is a remote facility so there's no one local we can call. Thank you so much for your help!

The only difference is that tendo Achillis (it's still a proper name even in Latin) is Latin, Achilles tendon is English. Be consistent, though, don't spell it "tendo Achilles"

And Dorland's 29th ed defines both as "tendo calcaneus" or calcaneus tendon.

If you use Stedman's books, a look in Stedman's dictionary should make it perfectly clear. If you don't own the dictionary, you can check the entries using http://www.onelook.com.
